This course combines field/industry photography and practical theory. Unlike a technically-oriented workshop, with photographic theory to the side, it helps you synthesize different sources of input. It helps you see more deeply into the potential of photography in your hands. It aims to incorporate and refine these knowledges into your own photographic practice, thereby enhancing your future outcomes.
6 days comprehensive workshop
This course will take the student through various theories, which are then used as the basis for techniques, practical experience and professional feedback throughout the course.
Day 1 – An introduction to modern photography>
8:30am – 6pm
This session includes a 2 hour introduction to photography in commercial / advertising, and 6 hours of field photography both in location and studio. You can
– understand the appeal of modern photography through the photographer’s works
– learn how to photograph on location in different conditions
– works with models at in the studio and on location
Day 2 – Working at Studio
8:30am – 6pm
This session focuses on the concept of studio lighting, how to utilise existing equipment, with case studies of the photographer and hands-on workshop in a commercial photography studio. We includecase
– studies of photographer’s works, the stories behind each example of photographylighting tutorial with professional studio lighting equipment: understanding
– how to control studio lighting for optimal effectshow to use available lighting equipment to create effective studio like lighting
– small group hands-on workshop in the studio with photographer’s instruction
Day 3 – Art direction / Post Production
8:30am – 6pm
This session looks at the workflow of digital photography in digitizing and understanding colour. In creating and developing the ideas, we examine
– the instructor’s career portfolio
– skin colour, HDR process and understanding highlight/shadow
– how to profit from experimentation photography at studio
Day 4 – Photography theory
8:30am – 2pm
This session engages soft theory to understand different genres of photography, exploring the meaning of the photographic image and where photography fits in contemporary art and the commercial field. It includes
– soft theory of art and contemporary photography in particular
– photographic history and the meaning of photography in the 21st centur
– a gallery visit
Day 5 – Studio / Location
8:30am – 6pm
This session gives the participants opportunities to practice and work on their projects which might be examined in the critic workshop. It involves
– a half day workshop and location
– the opportunity to work on a project of personal interest
Day 6 – Critic workshop
8:30am – 2pm
This session gives participants the opportunity to present and discuss their work in a searching but sympathetic environment. It includes- a half day workshop and location
– learning how to presenting your work
– encountering feedback on the style and substance of the work
– enjoying group discussion on the photographs
3 days technical course
This course will help the student to expand their repertoire of practical skills and techniques by spending three days with three experts diving deeply into various aspects of modern photography.
